    Eastbourne Triathlon 2025

A strong contingent of 19 Tritons turned out at Eastbourne for our annual Standard Distance Championships on Sunday, 8th June 2025.

Following a dreary Saturday, race day delivered much-improved conditions with plenty of sunshine, and the sea proved far less chilly than expected. After successfully navigating the currents, we took on the slightly altered bike course—challenging as ever, with the climb up to Beachy Head remaining a formidable test. The run route, which included a section of the promenade, provided a scenic conclusion to a very well organised event.

Several standout performances deserve recognition. Keith, our chair and club captain, secured victory in his age category with a stellar time of 02:52:17. Simon Burbidge led our men’s field with an impressive 02:29:20, while Kate Fry was our fastest female, finishing in a superb 02:52:04. Congratulations also to Clinton Lowe for finishing second in the Sprint Aquathlon and to Digby Spencer-Lewis for finishing fourth overall and first in his age group category in the Standard Distance Aquathlon.

Well done to everyone who took part! Full results here.

Our next Club Club Championships is at the Ocean Sprint Triathlon Leybourne Lakes, Kent on Sunday 27th July.

  • Junior Aquathlon 2025

    Junior Aquathlon 2025

Sunday 1st June saw a record 279 triathletes compete in Greenwich Triton’s annual Junior Aquathlon. Forming part of the London Junior Series, the event took place at Colfe’s School, Lee.

The competition and temperatures heated up as the day went on with some hugely impressive times and sprint finishes. All junior age groups from Tristart age 8 (50m swim, 500m run) all the way through to Junior 17-19 (400m swim, 4,000m run) were represented.

The event is always popular with junior triathletes and is known for its supportive and inclusive atmosphere. Parents had plenty to keep them happy too with a brilliant BBQ and bake sale, raising funds to help the club continue to provide a great value training and coaching offer to members.

Congratulations to all who took part; we hope to see you again next year! Thanks to all the volunteers for their help in making the event happen and to Colfe’s School for use of their facilities.

Finally, the club wishes to express its sincere gratitude to Howard Kee who organised his last event after four years as race director.

  • New thursday swim session for members

New thursday swim session for members

At Greenwich Tritons we are always looking to offer more training variety for members. Due to popular demand, we are reintroducing the midweek swim session, with exclusive use of the Wavelengths Leisure Centre 25m pool in Deptford. This technical session will compliment the existing Sunday session, which can be geared more towards fitness and endurance.

“Bring all your toys” was the battle cry from head coach Adam Tanner, so a dozen Tritons arrived early with kickboards, pull buoys, hand paddles, fins, centre snorkels, nose clips, swimming caps, goggles…oh and swimming costumes (buoyancy shorts for those so inclined!). And if they didn’t have any toys, that was fine too.

These new 8pm Thursday sessions include various activities in the pool to improve freestyle (front crawl) technique. The first session focused on perhaps the most important, body position in the water. So after a brief land-based arm and shoulder activation routine, and over the course of the hour, Adam assisted by Lizzie, directed proceedings.

The weekly Thursday session is open to adult club members of all abilities, and costs £5 per week (bookings on the club website) to cover the cost of pool hire.

Adam said: “It’s a fantastic facility for just our members to use with direct feedback from me and Lizzie. Swimmers will be able to focus on swimming elements that need practice and refinement”.

Tons of fun was had by all (see pic above) – and we hope to see many more Tritons in the weeks ahead.

  • Triton junior hits the headlines

Greenwich Triton, Marley Reeves, was featured in the South London Press just before Christmas.
Marley finished ninth in the 2021 Inter Regional Championships for British Triathlon.
Marley told the SLP: “I am very lucky to belong to a great club where I have made lifelong friends.”
What a superstar and also a well deserved mention for her Triton coach, Bruno Mahsoudi.
