A Brilliant 2025/26 Cross Country Season for Greenwich Tritons

Spring has arrived at last, even if the weather hasn’t quite got the memo, and with the triathlon season on the horizon, it’s the perfect moment to celebrate a fantastic cross country season for Greenwich Tritons.

Our seniors and juniors have represented the club across a packed calendar of events including the Kent League (Norman Park, Danson Park, Tonbridge, Foots Cray Meadows, Swanley Park); London Championships (Parliament Hill); Southern Championships (Beckenham); and South of Thames Championships (Wimbledon Common).

Just showing up at a cold cross country event is an achievement in itself but there were several standout performances that deserve a special mention:

  • Lesnes Abbey 5 — Charlotte Broyd: 1st place
  • Joydens Wood 10-mile — Kate Fry: 2nd place
  • Kent Cross Country Championships (Brands Hatch) — U15G Charlotte: 1st place; U20W Emer: 4th; U13B Max: 5th
  • Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships (Nottingham) — Charlotte: 15th; Emer: 29th; Max: 49th
  • English Schools Cross Country Championships (Liverpool) — Junior Girls: Charlotte: 5th, and subsequently selected to represent England at the Schools International race next weekend, a tremendous achievement!

Alongside the packed cross country schedule, around 50 Seniors and Juniors Tritons have taken part in the monthly Friday night handicap across the four events held over the winter on Blackheath Common.

Looking ahead, two Tritons based in Lewisham, Jennifer and Evelyn, have already secured their places in next month’s Mini-Marathon. Selection for Greenwich, Bromley and Bexley boroughs is set to follow in the coming weeks, with several more Tritons hoping to qualify. Watch this space!

A huge thank you to Lesley McCarthy, whose energy and organisation as Seniors Cross Country Captain has been immense, and to everyone who supported the Juniors throughout the season, especially Lauren Porter. And thanks as ever to Louise Roper for organising the ever popular monthly handicap.

There was a great turnout at our first ever parkrun of the month in Catford in February and we hope to beat this at Greenwich Peninsula on Saturday 28th March for our next one which doubles up as the British Triathlon parkrun takeover.

We’re looking forward to seeing both the participation and the podiums carry through into the busy summer racing season!
